The Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that they had approved permits for 15 new companies that applied to set up operations in the duty free manufacturing zones. They have also signed contracts to develop and open three new free zone parks.
These new companies will invest around RD$1.35 billion and create 1,766 direct jobs with an income of around US$21.7 million. The development and operation of the three new free zones parks is estimated to involve an investment of RD$1.74 billion, generate income around US$10.7 million and create 3,200 direct jobs.[May 2016]
