Memoirs of a Small Town Lawyer (Memorias de un abogado de pueblo, Paperback, Gaceta Judicial, 341 pages), the recently published book of memoirs of Antonio Guzmán (1906-2001), , was presented to the public in a widely attended ceremony at the San Francisco de Macorís City Hall. Supreme Court Judges, local officials, law scholars, attorneys, friends and family attended the event, which, as expected, turned into a nostalgic celebration of the life of the celebrated lawyer.
Compiled and edited by his son , the book describes the life of our firm’s founder as a young man in the town of Salcedo in the early 20th century; his years as a law student at the University in Santo Domingo in the late 1920's; his unlikely partnership with Don Pelegrín Castillo, one of the great attorneys of the time; and his family life and law practice in the town of San Francisco de Macorís during the “Era de Trujillo” –1930 to 1961– when the Dominican Republic was ruled with an iron hand by strongman Rafael Trujillo.
The book has been unanimously praised by the critics. Manuel Mora Serrano wrote for the -the leading Dominican newspaper- that the book is one of the most enjoyable memoirs he has ever read, characterizing it as a "lucid and splendid example of how to write a life story in plain language.” To read the full article please click here: .
