The Chamber of Deputies approved recently a bill which will regulate the operations of credit bureaus in the Dominican Republic. These type of bureaus have been in operation for more than a decade now without any state regulation. The Bill grants new rights for consumers whose information is used by any of these bureaus in order to protect their privacy and to restrict the personal information that appears in the reports provided by the bureaus. According to the new law, any properly identified person may request access to their credit information from any credit bureau and will have the right to receive a timely report of its contents. Consumers will also have the right to complain when wrong or inexact information is found. The Bill is still waiting for the President?s final approval and publication. |
